Sustainable Reintegration Iraq 2.0 (SRI2) Project

Sustainable Reintegration Iraq 2.0 (SRI2) Project

The SRI2 Sustainable Reintegration Iraq 2.0 project aims to support Iraqi returnees by providing business training and peer-to-peer support, offered in Arabic in Baghdad and in Kurdish in Erbil.

The SRI2 project is dedicated to enhancing the quality and sustainability of the return and reintegration process for Iraqi returnees. SRI 2 project is implemented by the Finnish Immigration Service, with the support of the support of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Return and Reintegration Facility (RRF). The project is funded by the European Union.

Access to the services will be open from the beginning of April 2025 until 30 September 2025.

SRI2 support Includes

  • Business Training: Practical skills to help establish and manage a business in Iraq.
  • Peer-to-Peer Support Groups: Support through shared experiences with other returnees in a safe and supportive space.

Business Training

The business training will take place in Baghdad (in Arabic) and Erbil (in Kurdish). The course lasts 5 days. Participants will receive a training allowance to cover basic expenses during the course, based on their attendance.

Additionally, there will be a pre-departure information session on Iraq’s business environment, economic landscape, and opportunities to help participants better understand the local market.

During the course, participants will:

  • Learn how to identify their strengths and needs
  • Learn how to start and manage a business
  • Receive support for developing a business plan
  • Understand budgeting, income, and expenses
  • Meet other returnees from Europe and share experiences

The business training services are provided by the Public Aid Organization (PAO).

Peer-to-Peer Support Groups

The support will be provided through peer-to-peer support groups in both Baghdad (in Arabic) and Erbil (in Kurdish). Sessions will be conducted every two weeks.

There will be separate groups:

  • Men
  • Women and family members of male returnees

These groups will provide the returnees with tools to manage stress and solve problems. They also provide support through shared experiences in a safe and supportive space.

The peer-to-peer support group services are provided by the Rehabilitation, Education, and Community Health (REACH).

How to participate?

  • The referrals will be made through the Reintegration Assistance Tool (RIAT) system.
